Saybrook University was established to challenge the idea that human beings needed to be broken down into parts and isolated from the rest of the world to be understood. Instead, our founders declared that human beings are complex, and to understand them, one must understand the interconnectivity of everything that they experience. Committed to helping students achieve their full potential, our community is deeply rooted in this humanistic tradition.

The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology
Expressive Arts Therapy Program

This new program is specifically designed to prepare the next generation of mental health professionals in the therapeutic use of expressive arts for personal, family, and community transformation. Combining expressive arts with strong counseling and trauma treatment skills can be a powerful way to help the lives of individuals, families, and communities through many regions of the world.

The program meets the educational standards for both the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) for becoming a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT), and the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Allied Mental Health and Human Service Professions to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
